Brian Tong digs into the nuances of the Apple HomePod, which sounds great — but there’s more to a smart speaker than just sound. Subscribe to CNET: http://cnet.co/2heRhep Check out our playlists:…

Wow. Everyone was saying that the power cable wasn't removable…. sigh. Thanks for the information!

If they fixed Siri, allowed Bluetooth, and opened up the platform just a bit. This would be dope.

Great review by Brian Tong! Terrible product by Apple. Brian was VERY kind by saying this is for someone already invested in the Apple ecosystem. In reality, most people with the latest iPhone already have a stereo system that sounds better and can be easily to connected to the phone and other devices. Even if you don't, it cost less to get Alexa or Google Home and a Hi-Fi stereo that will sound WAY better than the HomePod.

This product is a bad joke for fans and Apple stockholders. Tim Cook has to go if it requires an emergency meeting to get him out.

Sad times for Apple. They’re capable of so much more. What’s going on over there?

Go to Best Buy and get a pair of Sonos One (on sale now for $349 for 2) for the price of one HomePod. Seems like a no-brainer.

Brian, I am from Louisiana and know many, many, small towns and Bruce Lee is not one of them and I am glad you told Siri it is not. LMAO I would know about it and have been there because I am a Bruce Lee fan big time. That is a REALLY BAD LYING APPLE! 😂

This is no tech review. A person makes a thing and it works as advertised. You buy it to review, find that it does what it says, and you start complaining that it does not do some other thing. You may not like that but such opinion is not a tech review. It is a social commentary. You just entertain fellow downers. A few weeks later you’d return and apologize just as you did for AirPods. If you would not rise to the level of proper reviewers, I will have to unsubscribe you. I don’t need social commentaries when looking for product reviews.

I agree with everything you said on your review. Apple needs to make this speaker much more accessible and functional.

Shame that Apple would ship such a great sounding speaker with such terrible software limitations and security flaws. They need to step up their software quality—so many bugs.

Who puts speakers in the middle of the room?

All the speakers I've seen in real houses are placed in areas where they benefit from directional sound waves, rather than 360 degrees sound propagation, that bounce of all sorts of obstacles.

If most speakers are placed flush against a wall, or inside entertainment cabinets, or on TV stands, then the value of a 360-degree speaker is severely diminished. There's a reason you don't see DJ's, or any audio professionals, using 360-degree speakers at events.

So if this video isn’t bashing, what is it doing? When are people going to get over the fact that Apple is walled off to anyone but Apple ecosystem? Get over it. As far as Spotify. Why would Apple make it easy for a competing product?

Buy an echo dot and plug it to a 300+ speaker and you'll be much better off

I love brian tong so much. That’s my boy.
He’s one of the few and I do mean few reviewers that’s actually somewhat honest about apple products.
Tong is by far my favorite apple reviewer.
    Keep doing your thing Tong.

Im using Apple stuff since the Iphone 3gs. Somehow they lost me around the Iphone 7,,.
I wanted good quality Phones (at least they should feel like this) and accessories that simply work..
IOS started to ship with Bugs that make it feel inclomplete… They cut away Features like the Headphone Jack and they are giving a sh** about carplay.
I had big hope for Carplay but they simply ignore it. It so limited that it hurts to use it.
My last IPhone was the 6Plus, then i skipped some phones (normally i get a new phone every 2 years) and i now use a Iphone 8Plus. And its the same phone , a little bit faster, and way more fragile. The glass back is so incredible slippy without a case…
    And now the Home Pod.
I have a brand new Phone that does not work right, but look very good. Instead of making the Software for existing devices perfect, they make new devices that are even more limited.
Siri is a joke, especially here in germany where it is even more Limited…

I have to say i am not 100 Percent happy anymore…
And the Homepod is another thing that is nice and looks good, but the software limitations kill it.

EverythingApplePro had 2 HomePods connected on accident in his video when he was setting his up. Maybe you should get a second one to try it. Everything else about it wouldn’t have me spending that much for something that isn’t as good as Amazon Echo or Google Home at least

It doesn’t even work with my Apple TV or run custom queries. Wtf Apple. Since Steve Jobs has gone you guys have become the biggest cash cow. What happened to the user experience. As soon as my iPhone 7 dies I’m switching to a different company.

Basically it’s a jukebox. I love the hardware engineering so much. I really really want a reason to buy one. But reviews like this make it really hard to consider. If Apple would release a future feature tease and it looked compelling then I’d buy now.
